Initially announced in China back in April, the Nubia Red Magic 3 is now available in North America, Europe, Australia, and select Asian markets. The Red Magic 3 is the successor to last year’s Red Magic 2, which is known globally as the Red Magic Mars.
One of the Red Magic 3’s highlight features is its internal “turbo fan,” which Nubia says is a first for smartphones. Whether you’ll be pushing the phone hard enough for the fan to kick in is a different story. That said, the fan and the liquid cooling will theoretically sustain peak performance for a longer period of time.
However, the biggest upgrade is the Red Magic 3’s 6.65-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution, HDR support, and a 90Hz refresh rate. On paper, the display is an appreciable upgrade over the Red Magic Mars’ IPS panel that made do with a 60Hz refresh rate. As we’ve seen with the OnePlus 7 Pro’s display, a higher refresh rate makes navigating throughout the UI and playing games appear smoother than they are on normal displays.
Elsewhere, the Red Magic 3 features a single rear 48MP camera, an RGB light strip that runs vertically in the middle of the back, a front-facing 16MP camera, a headphone jack up top, and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. On the right side are the capacitive shoulder buttons that you can map to certain controls in games. On the left side is a switch that launches the phone’s Game Space, which acts as a custom launcher for games.
Under the hood, the Red Magic 3 features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, 8GB or 12GB of RAM, 128GB or 256GB of storage, and a huge 5,000mAh battery. You won’t have to wait long to charge up the battery, since it supports 18W fast charging. Finally, the phone runs Android 9 Pie out of the box.
The Red Magic 3 comes in two versions: one with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and a second with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Pricing starts at $479 in the U.S., 479 euros in Europe, and 419 pounds in the U.K. You can pick up the phone at the link below.
